Transverse flute with 1 key made around 1840 in New York by Edward Baack.

The instrument is in fair condition, it has a part of the key to be rebuilt and 2 cracks never restored in the third piece of the flute (see photo), the headstock and the first piece of the flute are in perfect condition, the original cap is present. The total length of the instrument is 59.5 cm. Look at my other ads regarding transverse flutes and recorders. 1832 Emigrated to US (or possibly 1838).

1837 Baack & Paulus, musical inst. dealer & importer (dir).

1839-1844 Edward Baack, #55 Gold St., musical inst. (dir).

1840 Baack becomes a naturalized citizen (nat. doc.).

1845-1849 Now at #81 Fulton St, manuf. & imp. of mi (dir).

1845 Manuf. & importer of double and single action harps (dir).

1846-1852 Second location at #72-1/2 Chatham St. Also selling bronze powders & gold leaf (dir).

1850-1875 Now at #87 Fulton St.; flutes, flageolets, drums, music boxes, accordions, hand organs, melodeons, violins, guitars, & brass of all kinds (dir).

1856 Listing for Philadelphia, musical inst., #78 N. 2nd St. (dir).

1859 A fire partially destroys his shop. He used the 1st floor and basement of #87 Fulton St. (news article).

1871 Baack in bankruptcy court (NY Times, Dec 1).

1872 Listed at #147 Fulton St. (possible error in directory).

1875 Listed as musical instruments, #87 Fulton St. (dir). 1880 No occupation in Census & 8 children at home. 1884 Wife Catharine dies at age 63.

1893 Edward dies on November 17.

Lo strumento è in discrete condizioni, ha una parte della chiave da ricostruire e 2 crepe mai restaurate nel terzo pezzo del flauto (vedi foto), la testata e il primo pezzo del flauto sono in condizioni perfette, è presente il tappo originale.
