Note: Ferdinand De Wilton Ward's son, Ferdinand Jr., was a noted American swindler.
His Ponzi scheme directly led to the Panic of 1884.
Inscription (October 1850) on front endpaper appears to be from/to a Ward family member,
but I cannot locate information on who these people might be. 
There was a Colonel William H. Ward, but he died in 1838.
