After graduating from high school, he joined Monsieur Onion Productions. He
made his video debut in "Gu-Gu Gammo" (1984). He
made his original debut in "Ha-i-step jun" (1985). He
made his animation directorial debut with Fist of the North Star (1987).
Character design and debut in "BE-BOP HIGH SCHOOL" (1989).
Became independent as a freelancer in 1990.
He is the author of "Drawing & Design Techniques for Anime Characters" and "Junichi Hayama Brush Work" (both published by Genkosha).
