Description
This is a moderately circulated, "One Jiao" note from "The Peoples Republic of Red China". It was issued in 1962.
The “Jiao” was like a Dime, it contained 10 “Fen” and ten of them made 1 “Yuan”. So, this was “Fractional Currency”.
In 1962, as now, there were Two Chinas. On the mainland, the “People's Republic” of China was under Mao Zedong, the communist dictator who had brought the party to power in 1949. Across the strait, on the island of Taiwan, resided the “Republic of China” led by Chiang Kai-shek. He had retreated there after losing the “Chinese Civil War”.
