Nice solid cast brass piece from a high end piece of furniture. Needs cleaning. There is a number on the inside which looks like "A539".
The opening is approx. 1 1/8" wide X 1 1/4" high, the holes on the sides do not line up, one is higher so the nails are not lined up when attached to the wood.
