LARGE CARTWHEEL HUB OR SHIPS CAPSTAN WOOD STUDIO ART DESIGN STAND ARTIST BESPOKE? BOAT SAILING DRIFT WOOD DISPLAY SHOP RETAIL CAFÉ RESTAURANT SEASIDE BEACH HUT SEASCAPE MARITIME

Been in the family for quite a few years now but I do not know anything re the history of this piece. It does not have any artist or brand names on it at all.

My guess is this would have been bought directly from a studio art shop / artist / designer etc.

Fun and probably bespoke unusual piece.

Not exactly sure what it is and family speak has suggested it looks to be a very old ships capstan or old cartwheel hub mounted onto a metal base. Don’t know what age it is either.

Can be enjoyed as it is or maybe you could make this into a fun table lamp or something?

It has large original metal rings in top and bottom to stop wear when turning on an axle.

The bottom metal ring has been welded onto the weighted metal base stand.

There are no moving parts, it is just ornamental art.

The base has a felt lining to the underside. The base looks to be a thin metal covering painted black but with some gold coloured metal just showing through in places. Made from copper or brass maybe ….i am not sure.

Weigh 8.1kg

Measurements:
Total Height: 550mm
Square base: 230mm x 230mm x 50mm
The actual Capstan is approx: H 445mm x W 220mm

UK Mainland postage £6.85 or you are welcome to collect from Iver Heath / Sth Bucks.

Thank you...
