PLEASE READ ALL TEXT AND VIEW ALL PHOTOS AND ASK ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING

This mixer appears to be a working prototype of the Alice 828, a little piece of history it seems, complete with old-school labels and all kinds of parts.

Complete with a workbench power supply, classic punch-out labels and so on, it's a cool piece of audio history and can still be used in the studio.

  • Every channel has a Sowter 3195 transformer on the input, these are about £100 each just as parts. They are all mic level channels, but I've used then for line level driving and summing by sending them in at a lower level.
  • The direct outs work, as do the main summed mixer outs.
  • The limiters work on channels 1 to 7 as punchy mono limiters with a fixed level.
  • The VU meters move properly.
  • EQs, faders,VUs and so on are all working, on channels 1 to 7.
  • Plenty of cool old components in there too to geek out over.
  • All channels are designed for mic level, so if you’re sending line into it for summing, send out a a low level (like -35dBFS or lower) and use gain on the desk t bring it back up, or balance input and output levels for coloration.
  • You can overload the input transformers for fun overdrive times!
ISSUES:

Channel 6 is a little quiet for some reason but works, channel 8 is not working, the limiter light is on permanently and it doesn’t pass audio. I don't know why this is, I've not investigated and don't really have time, so you'll need to fix this up yourself or just not worry about it depending how you use it. I'd bet it's not too hard to fix to be honest but I just haven't investigated.

SHIPPING:

It's heavy, so I've just had to guess a figure for shipping. If it's costs less though, I'll refund that amount of postage.

LISTING RULES

Due to massive increases in fraud and spam recently, please read these rules:

1. Ask questions and read all text and view all photos BEFORE bidding or buying, don’t just FOMO click then read it afterwards. I’ll not accept the “purchase first then ask questions after and cancel the purchase” behavior that so many have done recently. If you purchase and ask questions afterwards and try to cancel, you will be bound to your purchase and I will not cancel it. If you do not pay this will be pursued with eBay.

2. If an item is an auction or does not have offers active, do not spam with offers or stories about a “son’s birthday with a budget conveniently 20% less than your price” or a “needing it for gig in memory of your dog” or similar. Your message will not be replied to and you’ll be permanently blocked from bidding and buying.

3. I do not give partial refunds due to a new form of repeated attempted fraud from buyers. Every time someone has asked for a partial refund of up to 50% and I have, as a result, asked them to return the item, the so called “issue” has been found to be a lie upon receipt of the returned item, IE the attempted partial refund has been an attempt to steal money from me. As I result read all descriptions carefully, view all pictures and ask questions BEFORE bidding or buying. Do not assume extra things that are not shown or mentioned are included, and use this to haggle for discounts, just ask the question. Returns are only accepted if something is mis-described, but I’m very careful to make sure this doesn’t happen. Do not purchase an item banking on getting a discount by haggling when the item arrives, you will be offered a return if you are not happy, but not a partial refund for the reasons above.

4. Do not attempt to use the return window as a way to get me to pay for you to rent equipment from me for free, this has happened, and I will claim losses from you if you do so, as I did last time this happened.

Many thanks, and happy bidding/buying!
