Description
This is an original, silver, "One Half Sol" from the Republic of Peru. It was struck in 1928 while Peru was still striking these in silver. The series ended in 1935 when they began striking them in brass.
On July 21st, 1928, the Peruvian “Socialist Party” was established. It was led by José Carlos Mariátegui, a prominent Marxist thinker.

Obverse: REPUBLICA PERUANA - LIMA • 1928 • Arms.
Shield of Peruvian Arms: It was designed by José Gregorio Paredes, and shows a Vicuña, (a relative of the Llama and Alpaca), the "National Animal" of Peru, a Quina Tree, the "National Tree", and a Cornucopia with coins representing the mineral wealth of Peru.
Reverse: FIRME Y FELIZ POR LA UNION • Steady and happy for the union. • 1/2 SOL • Seated allegorical figure of Liberty, holding a shield showing a sun face and a pole topped by a liberty cap. Pillar with wreath on top and a ribbon with the word LIBER • TAD in relief.
The Coin: A veteran, it passed through many hands and earned the wear, marks and scratches it displays. Fully original, it has never been cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
