I believe this is an 1850s /1860s maternity gown!! Really rare and unique heavy dress that is an ideal piece for a fashion historians collection. It has a full gathered back and a front with no true waist line. I tried to put a bustle underneath, like from the 1870s, but it did not seem correct. It idealy would be styled with an earlier form of support structures, though it is shown like this in some of the photos. The shoulders are slightly dropped and it buttons from top to bottom. The center bodice is made of a taffeta while whe rest is a blended heavier fabric. Brown cotton lining. It has a pocket!

Condition: has some breaking to the taffeta, particularly on the bodice, some wear to the sleeves. May have other spots of wear. Best for study or collection due to the taffeta. Some sports of lightening/ fading.

34/35 in chest, 36 in waist.
