Large XIAN Chinese Terra Cotta Warrior Emperor Qin Shi Huang - Polychrome Decorated -

14 inches height

Impressive figure representing one of the thousands of  the Terra Cotta Army, life size Terra Cotta warrior figures discovered in 1974 in Xian, China, that created an international archaeological sensation.  The Terracotta Army sculpture represent the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China.  It is a form of funerary art interred with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the

purpose of protecting him in his afterlife.

Stands 14.25 inches tall. Width at the shoulders is about 5 inches.  Base measures 3" x 3.25".

The figure is unglazed and polychrome decorated with a colorants that are dry and powdery to the touch.  There is wear to the figure and the polychrome surfaces - please view the images. I am not sure but it appears that there either is a stress crack from drying or firing, or a repair at the feet of the figure where they meet the plinth. I took several views of the area for your consideration, please enlarge to view.

Unpackaged, the figure weighs between 3 and 4 pounds.
