George Lane was a staff artist for The Motor magazine.  He was very prolific in the years 1930-60's so lots of his art has survived but we know very little about him.  He produced some excellent art in a varity of styles.  See my eBay listing for other examples of his work and my website listed below for more information

This is a pen and ink with wash caricature by George Lane for The Motor magazine of a man holding pint tankard engraved with the initials ACD.  I believe this to be Arthur C Dobson the famous pre-war works driver for ERA.  Did not race after the war.  He is wearing his BRDC badge and has a tankard with his initials ACD. Has a title "Shy creatures of this jungle of Earls Court".  Initialled g.l. at top left.

On the reverse is The MOTOR EDITORIAL DEPT handstamp and printer's instructions.  Unfortunately it is not dated.  However came with other Lane material of around 1950.

The drawings are part of a large collection of artwork built up over the last 45 years to act as reference for my website about motoring art and artists -  www.motoringart.info look here to see more details about this artist

As I reach the age of 80 it is time to sell so everything must go!
