This 1851 letter from Almeron Hyde Cole to his brother Dan Hyde Cole is a rare and valuable piece of history. It provides a glimpse into the thoughts and concerns of a New Yorker during the pre Civil War era.

The content of the letter is mixed, including business dealings regarding shirts (perhaps) and sheds light on the relationship between the two brothers. It can be hard to read in areas due to smudging.

Almeron served as a State Senator in New York for a term in 1848-9. Dan also served as a State Senator in 1864-5.
