This is an excellent example of a Craftsmen bit brace model number 4240. It was manufactured by Millers Falls and copies their no 732 "Holdall" Model.

This 10 inch sweep ratcheting Hand Drill Bit Brace was Made In USA. Working and Cosmetic Condition is excellent .

It is a premium brace with a steel clad ball bearing head, fully boxed ratchet, with universal jaws and chuck, beautiful tropical Hardwood handles. Used very little no excess play at joints.

4240 is stamped on the bow along with the Craftsman Logo

The jaws are universal and they work with older tapered auger bits, hex bits as well as newer round bits.

Brace has been lubricated and Tested. Will last another lifetime with only minimal care.

This bit brace is circa 1950 to 1960 or so, about 70 years old.

Included is a complimentary set of round shank auger bits : the number sizes are 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, and 12. Also includes ab Irwin expansive bit that will bore larger hole when needed up to 1-7/8 inches in diameter.

A few years ago I became passionate about using vintage hand tools vs. battery or electric powered whenever it made sense to do so. Today my passion still thrives and I enjoy properly oiling/waxing, cleaning or refurbishing, if needed those same vintage woodworking tools.

My goal is to place as many of these high quality, made in the USA vintage hand tools back into the hands of today’s craftsmen.

I would never “part out” a good tool just for the proceeds. If the tool I have acquired is serviceable I will put it into as good of condition it can be and sell to friends or on eBay.
