INTERNATIONAL GRAFFITI TIMES, Vol. 1 - Jan. 1984

Author: [Street Art] [New York]
Title: INTERNATIONAL GRAFFITI TIMES, Vol. 1 - Jan. 1984
Publication: New York: IGT, 1984

Description: Inaugural issue of the first periodical devoted to New York street and subway art. The front cover captures the zine's rebellious sprit with an image of a bloated Mayor Ed Koch, the sworn enemy of "graffiti", covered with "tags". Inside is news about Michael Stewart, a street artist killed by police, and interviews with Sak and Rize, two teenage "writers", actively "burning" trains.

Founded by photographer David Schmidlapp, or "Yanqui Junkie" as he is often identified, the zine was known by a variety of names during its decade long run (1984-94), including IGTimes, Subway Sun, InterGalactic Times, GetHip International Times, and Tight.

Photomechanically reproduced on both sides of a 22" x 17" sheet of white stock that folds to 8 1/2" x 11". Some mild toning and edgewear; otherwise very good.
