Unusual Vintage Handmade Travelling Icon with Medals, Cross & Plaque in Wallet. 

Here on offer is an unusual vintage handmade travelling icon with medals, cross & plaque in a small wallet.

This wonderful little wallet has been lovingly constructed and has an ornate blue blanket stitch holding the faux brown leather and salmon coloured cotton lining together with a press stud fastening.

The wallet unfolds to reveal three small medals, a cross and an image of Christ. The first medal is oval, the front has an image of the Madonna & Child with the legend:

OUR LADY OF  MOUNT CARMEL PRAY FOR US

The reverse displays Christ with the legend:

SACRED HEART OF JESUS HAVE MERCY ON US

The second medal is the Saint Benedict medal, a symbol of opening doors and difficult paths, tradition is that it protects from curses, evil, vice and disease. 

The last is a Saint Christopher medal to protect the traveller and also against sudden death, the reverse carries the message:

I AM A CATHOLIC. 

IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT PLEASE NOTIFY A PRIEST

The medals are cast in a lightweight silver coloured metal.

Below the medals is a small silver cross sewn in place. The last element of this travelling icon comes from THE LEAGUE OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS, it is a celluloid portrait of Christ, this has a red fabric backing and is held together using blanket stitch with a gold toned silk thread. 

The wallet measures about 12.3cm by 4.6cm open and 4.6cm by 4.5cm by 1cm when fastened closed.
