The time has come to sell our beloved Herman. He’s been a trusted and reliable member of the family for the last 4 years but we have recently bought a much larger motorhome (which is very vanilla and characterless by comparison) so we need to move him on.
Don't compare a classic Hymer with other motorhomes of the period. A bit like VW campervans, they have a huge following, loads of dedicated Facebook groups, their own festivals and regular dedicated "Technical Weekends" where you can learn all about servicing and maintaining them. Eveybody seems to love an old Hymer!

Please don't come to view Herman expecting him to be immaculate. On a vehicle of this age there is always going to be some wear and tear and modifications carried out by former owners. Generally, he's is is great condition for his age and has proven to be a comfortable, reliable and fun home from home. There are, however, a few known issues I need to point out:
  • Operating the kitchen tap doesn’t always start the water pump. This is likely a bad connection or a faulty microswitch
  • The awning has a 3 inch tear in it. It has been taped up, is water tight and is barely noticeable. The awning still winds in/out perfectly fine
  • The oven is unproven. We have never used it
  • The rear “bike rack” bumper pulls out and locks in place, but there are no running boards or ramps
  • The large skylight above the lounge is missing the blackout blind. We use and will supply a black piece of material, which is Velcro’d in place
  • The blackout blind on the rear window has a tear at one end and leaves a gap when used, approx. 1” wide
  • The heavy and bulky original table/bed support has been disposed of. In its place we have added removable wooden slats that fit between the seats to make up the rear bed. We use a flat-folding lightweight metal table for meals, which will be included in the sale
  • No gas cylinders will be supplied with the van - we need then for our new motorhome, however I will fit them for any viewings to prove the heating etc
  • As above, no electric hook up leads will be supplied. We have these on hand to prove everything works on 230V
  • No recent service history (I've done it myself)
  • No recent habitation checks. I have a damp meter to prove the watertightness of the van
  • The van has been fitted with 2 lap belts across the rear seating, however, I don't believe they meet current regulations. The law is a bit confusing but, on a motorhome of this age, I think passengers can travel in the rear, and a lap belt is better than nothing, If this is important to you, please do your own research
Note, the motorhome failed its MOT this week, but only due to split outer CV boots. These will be replaced within the week and a new MOT pass certificate issued, valid until May 2025.

The motorhome is available for viewing by appointment only. Please get in touch if you have any questions, wish to see more photos etc.
