1949 Press Photo Actress Marlene Dietrich, London - sap68865

This is an original press photo. Actresses --- Marlene smoked out of turn -- Marlene Dietrich, shown as she relaxed over a cigarette between movie scenes, smoked at the wrong moment yesterday and came within inches of getting her knuckles rapped. The glamorous film star smoked through a long cigarette holder during a luncheon in her honor in London before the toast to the king was drunk. In England, that is height of something one doesn't do. So, the toastmaster banged his gavel and just missed Marlene's fingers. They he proposed the royal toast prematurely - in the middle of dessert - and announced: "Ladies and gentlemen, you may now smoke." (London)Photo measures 10 x 8inches. Photo is dated 06-30-1949.
