This after market part is made with Spring wire (wire that is used to make springs) which is STRONGER wire than the original part (.038 diameter part) because it is able to stand up to the constant flexing.

This tripwire is also LARGER in Diameter - .048 vs .038 for the "original" - the larger diameter creates increased tensile strength which makes it stronger, a scientific fact, therefore, it will last longer than the original part and likely it will not fail again.

BOTTOM LINE: The original part (.038 diameter version) is light duty, this replacement is a HEAVY DUTY version that will last much longer.

If your Lazy Boy rocker/recliner continues to rock after you engage the foot rest, most likely the trip wire that operates the ratchet plate is broken. You do not have to take the recliner in for service and a large repair bill, you can fix it yourself quickly and easily with this replacement tripwire! Check your recliner by carefully turning the chair forward to expose the bottom. This replacement is made with stronger wire than the original version, so it will last much longer.

Fix your rocker recliner properly with this tripwire. This is NOT regular wire, but special high strength SPRING WIRE which is used to make springs. Only spring wire will properly continuously operate the ratchet plate on your recliner as Spring wire will not easily deform. Additionally, this wire is extremely high strength and able to hold up to the stresses of the recliner mechanism maintaining its shape after each use. Using any other type of wire may work for a few days, but it will fail again quickly. The wire must be the proper length in order for your mechanism to operate correctly.

This is an after market direct replacement tripwire approx. 9" in length and wire is .048" diameter spring wire properly bent and at the proper length for easy installation and proper operation. This sale is for the tripwire only. Under the seat is a trip wire that is connected a short rod with a hole through the center of it. Both ends of the trip wire go into opposite ends of this hole. Then a bolt screws into the bar to hold the ends to the tripwire in place. That short rod is mounted on a square bar, on which is mounted the handle on the outside of the arm. When the handle is used, the trip wire pushes against a locking bar to engage a set of notches, thus locking the recliner from rocking. Eventually, due to metal fatigue, this trip wire will break and needs to be replaced. Replacing it with this version made of Spring wire will far outlast any other wire. You can fix your chair yourself within minutes. This is not a hard fix - you just need this wire and a driver tool to remove the bolt/screw (may need a star bit). Use care and caution when turning your chair over to service.

FYI: You can try and make one yourself with directions off the internet, however, their directions are not accurate and indicate using a smaller diameter wire and the wrong dimensions. The instructions on the internet are not mine and are not correct. Avoid the hassle of trying to source a wire, driving around to obtain the wire, strange looks from people when you tell them what your are trying to make, getting the wrong size wire, straightening out the wire, bending it exactly into shape. Why make it yourself when our wire, which is superior in diameter (meaning it will last longer), is bent accurately and properly with the correct dimensions, and it will arrive right in your mailbox ready to go. Make it easy on yourself.

****NOTE****

Eventually, the factory original tripwire in your recliner will break. It may be a good idea to have a spare on hand so that you can fix your chair immediately - yourself - with little down time. This replacement tripwire is stronger than the original (.038 diameter version). Be prepared.
