Description

This is a well used, veteran, "Five Thousand Yüan" note from the "Central Bank of China". These were issued in 1945 the last year of World War II.

In 1945, China was on the winning side when Japan fell, ending World War II. But instead of taking a break and enjoying some peace, China was starting another war. This time a “Civil War” between what came to be called the “Nationalists” and the “Reds” or Communists.

“The Central Bank of China” was located in Nanking (now Nanjing), China. After the “Chinese Civil War”, the bank was relocated to Taiwan by the Nationalist government. The bank was renamed to the “Central Bank of the Republic of China” in 1949. In 1961, the bank was replaced by the “Bank of Taiwan” as the central bank of Taiwan
