This original Pair of 19th century Sioux Moccasins each measure approx. 9 1/2" long at their harness leather soles. The decoration is exceptionally beautiful with stylized thunder birds on the vamps and traditional, Sioux geometric design elements. The beadwork on the uppers is executed in colors of translucent red, cobalt blue and greasy yellow on a chalk white field. The Moccasins are sinew sewn and made of a smoke tanned hide with contiguous cuffs and applied tongues. The soles of both Moccasins were repaired / replaced a very long time ago with harness leather.
The Moccasins offered here are unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. They are NOT reproductions or modern recreations but original Sioux Moccasins crafted in the fourth quarter of the 19th century. The Moccasins come with our “no questions asked” return privilege and our lifetime guarantee of authenticity. They are guaranteed to be deemed authentic, original and as described by any qualified third party authentication service.
This rare and original, Pair of ca1890’s Sioux Bead Decorated Moccasins are in good condition only. The hide uppers are supple and intact, however, the upper of the right hand Moccasin is partially detached at the seam from the sole. The beadwork is very attractive and generally well preserved with some scattered, small areas of loss mostly in the area of the heels. The soles are old replacements and are made of harness leather that is somewhat stiff and show heavy, honest wear from many years of use. Because of the stiffness of the sole and the partial detachment from the upper of the right Moccasin, that Moccasin appears rather deformed in the photos below, however once repaired at the seam, both Moccasins will display very nicely.
A very rare and quite beautiful, original Pair of ca1890’s Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Hide Moccasins and, with all faults, still a fine adaddition to any collection!!!
