Very rare and original, 1889 McLoughlin Bros. Chromolithograph Boxed Card Game titled “The Judge’s Game Cards”. The Game is complete including all 52 cards, the instruction booklet and the original, chromolithograph box.


    This outstanding McLoughlin Card Game comes in its original, paperboard box which measures approx.4 1/2” by 6 1/4” by 1” deep. The top panel is illustrated with a charming, chromolithograph image of a monkey dressed as a Judge thumbing through a large book and seeming to ponder the judgment of a defendant – another anthropomorphic monkey who stands before the bench. The Game is copyright 1889 by the manufacturer – McLoughlin Brothers of New York City.


    The Game is complete and comes with all 52 called for, original Playing Cards as well as the original Booklet of Instructions for Play. The Cards could be used to play three different games and the directions for playing all three games is included in the booklet.


    This rare and original, 1880’s McLoughlin Bros. Boxed Card Game is in very good condition. The Game Box in sound and intact with all side panels present and intact and three of the four corner junctions are tightly joined. The surface of the Box is generally well preserved with light soiling to the pastedown on the lid and some surface wear to the paper skin over the flaps of both the top and bottom of the box. As stated above, the Game includes all 52 of the called for, original Playing Cards as well as the original instruction / answer booklet. The Cards have some soiling and light edge wear throughout – one card has chips at two of the corners and a few of the cards have very small corner creases. The Instruction booklet in complete and intact.
