The molded designs on the front and back of the Case are identical and features a central, six pointed, star device containing a pinwheel element. The central star is surrounded by an elaborate design including flourishes, flowers, leaves and bead shaped dot elements. The Case is a dark and rich black color and the surface retains its original, brilliant shine.

    The Case is identified by Berg as Berg “3-126 Geometric”.

    While the Case now contains a pair of very nice Ambrotype portraits, it would make a beautiful presentation for a cherished pair of Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes or Tintypes.

    This very rare and beautiful, 1850's Union Case is in excellent condition. The molded images on both sides are crisp with no surface wear to even the highest points of the design. As stated above, the surface retains its original, brilliant surface shine. There are no chips, cracks, edge roughness, physical damage or repairs of any kind – the rounded corners are without flaw. The case closes squarely and latches tightly. The Ambrotypes contained in the Case is in very good condition – the portrait of the young woman has some solarization at the matt opening and the portrait of the girl has overall, uneven solarization and a few small blemishes to the emulsion.
