Hardback book of De Rerum Natura

By T Lucreti Cari (Lucretius)

Published in MDCCCLII (1853)

This is a 1st Century BC didactic poem by the Roman poet and philosopher, Lucretius, with the goal of explaining Epicurean philosophy to a Roman audience.

The poem is divided into six books. This is Libra Sex.

It contains an explanation of some of the most striking natural appearances, especially thunder, lightening, hail, snow, earthquakes and volcanoes, and localities noxious to animal life, which leads to a discourse on diseases.

It is in very poor shape.

Both front and back covers have broken away from the spine.

The spine cover is falling to bits.

There are brown markings on the first 15 or so pages.

Small pencil markings throughout the book.

Pencil notes on the back page and one in pen.

Altogether a rather sorry looking book.

But …..
