A beautiful antique regency cotton day dress dating from circa 1810 The dress is made of fine cotton lawn. The bodice is extremely short with the waist seam sitting right under the bust. The neckline and waistline have drawstring channels which tie at the centre back opening. The sleeves are full and long ending with double layered muslin ruffles at the wrists. The bodice front has an embroidered muslin insert which meets in a v shape at the front of the waistline. The skirt is narrow with the entirety of the fullness being gathered into the centre back of the waist. The lower portion of the skirt has three sets pleats staggered down towards the hem. The skirt pieces appear to have been pieced or perhaps fabric removed at some point as there are some vertical seams to the sides. A very rare and beautifully simple example of regency era dress and looks as if it could have stepped right out of a Jane Austen novel. Approximate Measurements *Measurements taken with bodice not gathered Bust 34 inches Waist 32 inches Front length 46 inches Back length 48 inches CONDITION The dress is showing signs of age related wear. The fine cotton lawn is very staned and marked with areas of the dress showing different levels of discolouration and foxing. The finely sewn thread is disintegrating in places leaving some areas undone such as the interior of the waist drawstring. I have avoided soaking the dress to remove the stains as the seams are delicate. There are some holes to the sleeves and skirt. The skirt appears to have been pieced at the sides or perhaps altered at some point. A very beautiful example showing signs of age related wear. Perfect for study or display.
