First and foremost, let me address the elephant in the room as I know what you're thinking: This is NOT the correct stand for these pipes, rather this stand was for the 2000 POY set. Yes, that is correct, but, don't these 2008's look amazing on this stand??!! I certainly think they do which is why I decided to include it rather than wait for a miracle to get both of the year 2000's, haha. Also, the plaque is no longer on the stand so who's the wiser if you display this exquisite set for all to see that are not familiar? I suppose if you want to get fancy, you could have a plaque engraved for this stand that reads "Peterson 2008 Pipe of the Year". Just a thought. I digress. Anyhow, I got this set in Chicago and personally the 2008 is in my top 3 favorites out of all the years, I absolutely love this shape! Simply referred to as a "Bent Billiard", I disagree whole heartedly as it's not that simple. This shape shows Brandy character at the very least, definitely some Egg as well. I'll start with the pipe on the left first, the Dress finish which is absolutely stunning! The bowl is tall and feels awesome in hand with super thick walls and the rim of course adorned with an ornate Sterling Silver cap with Celtic Knots inscribed adding an amazing touch. The heel gets a bit bulbous which is why I call this a Brandy given the taper towards the rim while to the rear in typical Irish fashion a pronounced transition to a massive half+ bent chubby round shank adorned with more Sterling with matching Celtic Knot band that looks spectacular against the dark backdrop. Stem is original vulcanite fishtail with cursive "P" on the flank. The second pipe is actually a German market blast, neato! Same exact shape as the other of course but the stem is 9mm capable with inlaid aluminum "P". The blast is fantastic showing craggy ring grain and big birdseye craters! Both pipes looked like they had only seen a few smokes, super clean! A cool set of 2008 POY's, these puppies are not to be missed!

Restoration Methods: I have been restoring pipes for 16 years and have taken bits and pieces from many guys whom I consider the best there ever was in the business and built upon it with my own experience and tricks of the trade. Each pipe is first cleaned by removing all cake, making the chamber smooth and round again if necessary, removing all gunk in the shank and stem with alcohol, then exterior cleaning and polishing of the stummel and stem with no oxidation left but at the same time leaving the vulcanite or acrylic and any logos intact. My restorations end with the pipe looking like new and being completely free from previous signs of use. I do not use salt/alcohol treatments in my bowls but rather if the pipe smells of prior tobacco I will put it in my ozone chamber to make neutral. Lastly, many guys ask me "how are your pipes so shiny!!??" I lightly use the fluffy edge of my white diamond buffing wheel to clean and restore stummels which removes all grime and oils while restoring the original factory luster. I then hand buff and finish with a flannel wheel with high quality carnauba applying multiple coats as they do at the factory as well. This results in the pipe looking as new and will keep it's finish with a simple terry cloth hand buffing at home. Enjoy!
