Item Description:

Up for auction and from our personal collection is this fabulous, exceedingly rare set of five Halloween pumpkin cut-outs in their original envelope.  Produced by Beistle in the early 1920's, pumpkins themselves are in excellent to near mint condition while the envelope is in poor condition as seen in the photos.  Three of the pumpkins are in near mint condition, one has two small, razor thin layers of cardboard and color missing at its base and the largest has creasing or tears on its hanger while still remaining intact.  Envelope is in poor condition with tears and light soiling but great to have nonetheless.  Esteemed Halloween expert Mark Ledenbach gives an enveloped set of these cut-outs a rating of 1 which is "exceedingly rare" on his Relative Scarcity Index.  Set can be seen on page 218 of his essential reference book "Vintage Halloween Collectibles" 3rd edition.  Two of the pumpkins in this set are identical which seems contrary to what the envelope says about "5 Assorted Designs and Sizes".  Interestingly when asking Mark about this, his own set turned out to have a duplicate of the exact same pumpkin as this one, leading us to the conclusion that it's likely that both sets have the correct contents.  The odds of two sets having identical wrong contents is minimal given the rarity of the piece.  Pumpkins range in size from 4 5/8" to 7 1/2" in diameter with the envelope measuring approximately 9 3/8" by 12".  Please view our photos very carefully as everything is shown and are part of the description.  Any reflections, white spots or irregular looking shading patterns in the photos (amplified when using the enlarge feature) are due to glare from outdoor light.  Please view our other auctions for more vintage Halloween items.
