Very fine Meiji period silver wire cloisonne box featuring amorning glory flower and bud with foliage and butterfly on a deep red background on the lid. A real sign of quality is that the underside of the box is alsoprofusely decorated in cloisonne enamels featuring a Kamon crest symbol with aflower with tendrils and butterflies on a yellow-green background. All thesides are in black enamel also embellished with silver wire twirls. The insideshows remnants of gilding on a bronze base. It is unsigned but of the highest quality. The impact on one of the sides mainly affects the black enamel and hardly affects the beautiful cloisonne decoration on the lid. The impact has been taken into account in the starting price, but this remains a rare andexquisite cloisonne work of art showcasing the skill of the Japanese artisan who made it in the late 19th century.
