An antique Davenport blue-green transferware plate decorated with the “British Scenery” pattern. c.1830. A pastoral scene with a cottage, cows in the foreground and the figure of a man walking towards the church; the border is decorated with grapevines and wheat. To base blue printed pattern name “British Scenery” and “Davenport” and also impressed name “Davenport” in an arc above an anchor with the numbers ‘6.71’. It measures 22cm in diameter. It is in good condition with any wear in keeping with age and use: has overall crazing, but no chips or cracks; there are utensil marks; kiln/ tripod support marks; specks of kiln dust; some discolouration (mainly to the reverse).
