ANTIQUE
WOOD AND BRASS
PARALLEL RULER

An antique 15-inch ebonised wood and brass parallel ruler, probably dating from c.1860-1914. This type of ruler is difficult to date, as the same design was produced for almost 100 years, from around 1850 onwards. Although there are no maker’s marks, this ruler is very similar to examples made by W. F. Stanley & Co Ltd. Parallel rulers were used for both drafting and navigational purposes. Six inch bar type rules were frequently included in sets of drawing instruments, while the larger ones were used for both purposes. Parallel rulers were often used for navigation and map work by the armed forces in WW1 and WW2.

Condition:

In very good condition, full working order, with some minor wear and a few marks.

Dimensions: 15 inches x 2.5 inches

***I have several other antique scientific instruments listed at the moment. Combined postage is available***
