This is a intricately carved Chinese ''faux'' tortoise shell fan from circa the 19th Century during the Qing Dynasty period
The fan has 21 leaves and only one outer guard as the other is broken and missing.
The blue ribbon connecting the leaves has perished with age in places and would need replacing.
The leaves of the fan still unfold and align well.
Other than the broken and missing outer guard, there is some very slight damage to one of the leaves - please see photos
Overall the fan is in remarkably good condition considering the delicate nature of the work and its age.
It measures 19 cm long and is 2.3 cm at it's widest point.
