Description
This is a quite scarce, professionally certified and graded, "Requisition For $50.00” in "Missouri Defence Bonds". It dates from the 1860’s Civil War period.
From the reference cited below: "The purpose of the Requisitions for Defence Bonds is not at all clear." They were apparently used by units of the Missouri State Guard. Unsigned and thus a “Remainder”, these circulated anyway. They were printed by Keating & Ball of Columbia, South Carolina.
Missouri saw a lot of the Civil War, the state sent representatives to both Congresses and had forces fighting on both sides. This note was probably to be used by the "Southern" forces as it pictures a Slave and Overseer.
