Speciale esemplare di tappeto Kuba Bidjov, o meglio Kuba
Biliji – dal nome del villaggio di provenienza – oppure anche con motivo a
palmette, ma in Occidente è noto, apprezzato, ricercato, collezionato con quella
dicitura. Gli esemplari della zona di Kuba si distinguono dagli Shirvan Bidjov
dall’esplosività della decorazione palmizia ascendente, dalle forme floreali
fiammeggianti, dall’eccentrica colorazione.
Il manufatto è databile nella metà del XX sec., anni
Cinquanta Sessanta, e presenta caratteristiche uniche, anzitutto risale a un
periodo poco documentato del Kuba Bidjov, la prima speciale caratteristica è
che sappiamo riconoscerne un’orgogliosa fattura armena: è infatti firmato
tramite due iniziali Vev e Ben, nella parte alta secondo la direzione di
lettura; ha una stravagante e frangiatura osservata in alcuni tappeti armeni;
la cornice a rose si spiega pure grazie al gusto di partenza armeno. Stessi
identici motivi si trovano in generazioni precedenti, che sono più fitti nella
decorazione, mentre questo è più minimale, tende a lasciare libero il campo,
non eccede nella saturazione interna della composizione, lascia parlare la
luminosità soprattutto del rosso.
La fondazione è interamente in lana e il manufatto è annodato
finemente con un’elevata densità di nodi, almeno 240.000 con un’annodatura
simmetrica e doppio nodo armeno. L’effetto della lana è vaporoso, morbido e
soffice, quasi fosse un pesante mantello di 5-6 Kg. Le lane sono caucasiche,
piuttosto luminose, si evidenzia l’eccellente colorazione del filato in
amaranto, utilizzato per il fondo, con abrash, e con tinte che vanno dal rubino
all’arancio – queste visibili sotto la luce artificiale – ma fondamentalmente
un rosso mattone.
L’accostamento cromatico è audace e dal forte impatto, a
tratti acidulo, il cui gusto ricorda nello spirito quello degli antichi tappeti
dei draghi armeni. Attenuato e reso sofisticato dagli anni.
Se vogliamo, un’altra particolarità del tappeto è che i
filati con tinture vegetali utilizzati possono essere perfettamente visibili
dalle cuciture delle frange.
La rasatura differisce dagli altri Bidjov, è “artigianale”,
non troppo regolare, con un cenno di prezioso nimbaft – annodatura a rilievo –
molto ben visibile nei contorni dell’elemento centrale – rosso su rosso più
scuro – che dà un tocco di tridimensionalità al disegno.
Altra caratteristica derivata dal tipo di rasatura – che può
tornare più utile ancora – è che sia ancora alto in vello, con una lieve
alterazione dell’altezza dello stesso nella parte della base – nella direzione
di lettura.
Vanno notate altre cose: l’irregolarità dell’intelaiatura;
alcune irregolarità nella cornice e nel disegno, la cui esecuzione resta
elegante.
Altri notabilia:
Le bretelle cucite sul bordo per far sì che venisse appeso.
Va altresì segnalata la presenza di un piccolissimo
intervento, molto probabilmente per ricucire la bordatura e di rilanatura di
qualche nodo, con la stessa lana rossa, è un intervento che non si nota
immediatamente.
Condizioni generali: si vede che il tappeto sia stato poco
calpestato, se non pochissimo e che sia stato tenuto appeso o in condizioni
riguardate. Rosso mattone; rosso scuro; indaco; viola; marroncino; arancione;
verde pistacchio; verde mela; rosa; giallo chiaro.

Special example of Kuba Bidjov carpet, or rather Kuba Biliji
- from the name of the village of origin - or even with a palmette motif, but
in the West it is known, appreciated, sought after, collected with that
wording. The specimens from the Kuba area are distinguished from the Shirvan
Bidjov by the explosiveness of the ascending palm tree decoration, the flaming
floral shapes and the eccentric colouring.
The artefact can be dated to the second half of the 20th
century, the 1950s and 1960s, and presents unique characteristics, first of all
it dates back to a little documented period of the Kuba Bidjov, the first
special characteristic is that we know how to recognize a proud Armenian
workmanship: it is in fact signed by two initials Vev and Ben, in the upper
part according to the reading direction; has an extravagant and fringing
observed in some Armenian carpets; the rose frame is also explained thanks to
the Armenian taste of departure. The same identical motifs are found in previous
generations, which are denser in decoration, while this one is more minimal,
tends to leave the field free, does not exceed the internal saturation of the
composition, and lets the brightness especially of the red speak for itself.
The foundation is entirely made of wool and the product is
finely knotted with a high density of knots, at least 240,000 with symmetrical
knotting and double Armenian knot. The effect of the wool is vaporous, soft and
fluffy, almost like a heavy cloak of 5-6 kg. The wools are Caucasian, rather
bright, the excellent color of the amaranth yarn, used for the background, with
abrash, is highlighted. and with shades ranging from ruby to orange – these
visible under artificial light – but basically a brick red.
The color combination is bold and has a strong impact, at
times acidic, whose taste recalls in spirit that of the ancient Armenian dragon
carpets. Toned down and refined over the years.
If we want, another peculiarity of the carpet is that the
vegetable-dyed yarns used can be perfectly visible from the seams of the
fringes.
The shaving differs from other Bidjov, it is
"artisanal", not too regular, with a hint of precious nimbaft -
knotting in relief - very clearly visible in the contours of the central
element - red on darker red - which gives a touch of three-dimensionality to
the drawing.
Another characteristic derived from the type of shaving -
which can be even more useful - is that it is still high in the pile, with a
slight alteration of the height of the same in the base part - in the reading
direction.
Other things should be noted: the irregularity of the frame;
some irregularities in the frame and design, the execution of which remains
elegant.
Other notables:
The straps sewn on the edge to ensure it can be hung.
It should also be noted that there was a very small
intervention, most likely to mend the border and to re-wool some knots, with
the same red wool, an intervention that is not immediately noticeable.
General conditions: it appears that the carpet has been
walked on very little, if not very little, and that it has been kept hanging or
in a poor condition. Brick red; dark red; indigo; viola; brownish; orange;
pistachio green; green apple; rose; light yellow.
The rug is ready to use.
