Thomas Wilkinson & Sons produced fine cutlery, scissors, shears, and nail clippers between approximately 1822 and 1845.  T. Wilkinson was “Manufacturer to Her Majesty” and as “Sheffield’s Master Cutler”, he created many unusual patterns and designs for specific types of scissors and shears.

These RARE antique hand forged iron scissors were invented before “sidebent” scissors with finger and thumb loops for grasping. This item measures 9 1/4 inches in overall length including the almost straight handles. They are designed with a clasp mechanism at the bottom to keep them in the closed position, a 2 screw plate mechanism to limit the width they can open, and a cleaver long spring-action lever for even pressure when in use. In addition, they are signed T. Wilkinson above a trade mark bow above an inverted heart over the initials T.W. The opposite side is marked SHEFFIELD below what appears to be lions on either side of a shield.

These scissors or shears may have served multiple purposes, both domestic and professional. They were strong enough to cut heavy fabric, tapestry, leather, tin, or poultry, etc. This item will make an excellent addition to any collection of tools, scissors, or cutting implements. Great condition! No Reserve.
