DESERT INN Casino Las Vegas 1965 Program Hello America! Moe Dalitz Howard Hughes

Classic Las Vegas Memorabilia from Saturday's Toys presents...  a vintage showroom program from the iconic Donn Arden Las Vegas production of "Hello America!" at Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn as owned by Moe Dalitz from 1964 - 1967; and Howard Hughes soon moved into the top two floors of the hotel (Thanksgiving Day, 1966) and the following year, Hughes purchased the entire property.  Today, the location serves as the site for the Wynn Las Vegas.

The program measures 5.75" x 10.75"; 4 pages; on quality paper and an Americana theme.

The show ran for six months between October 1964 and March 1965.  The program is undated, but as actress Valerie Perrine (Slaughterhouse-Five; Lenny; Superman) was listed as a featured performer in "Scene Four" (Garment District). Eventually, Perrine would be featured in a salute to Hollywood & Vine... and the role eventually led to higher profile performances in other Las Vegas shows.

The show was produced by Frank Sennes, famed owner of the 1950's Moulin Rouge nightclub in Hollywood.

Other performances included:

  • Victor Julian and Company
  • Dick Weston and the Nob Hill Lady
  • Davis and Reese (aka Pepper Davis and Tony Reese)
  • Carlton Hayes and His Orchestra
  • ...with costume designs by Bill Campbell and set designs by Harvey Warren

The show concluded with a spectacular finale saluting The Statue of Liberty.

The Crystal Room is the same showroom where Frank Sinatra made his debut in 1951 (then known as the Painted Desert Room).  Throughout the "Hello America" production, whenever the show was on hiatus, top entertainers would perform for a three-night engagement, including Jimmy Durante, Andy Williams, Eddie Fisher and Danny Kaye.

Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 15,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe.

Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
