Illustrated with black and white photos. The binding is stapled. Each of the birds described is by a fantasy Bird King who recites a poem about that bird, then describes its habits, home, etc. The birds covered are North American common songbirds: chickadee, robin, bluebird, mockingbird, etc.

The covers are standout, brightly lithographed and credited to Marion Koogler. Lovely, illustrated front and rear cover in color. Fauns are mythical creatures with both human and goat features. Fauns are a peculiar, chimeric race: half goat, half human. They were separated from the old Gods of Greek and Roman mythology and became independent, magical creatures of the forest.
