Rare Eyre & Spottiswood artist box with 12 watercolour paint cakes by

an unknown maker & 2 porcelain mixing dishes. Circa 1830's

The wooden box measures 8.5" x 4.25" x 1" and has a faded label for Eyre & Spottiswood

and contains 12 watercolour paint cakes and two porcelain mixing dishes.

The cakes are in various states, mostly unused or lightly used, with two which are broken,

as shown in the photos.  They are marked 'London Colours' with a fabulous embossed

lions head on each cake and the colour of the cake stamped on the reverse.

The two small porcelain dishes are in good condition with no damages.

The box is in fair condition with working hinges and two hook catches and no splits to

the wood, which I think may be box wood? There is a slight buckle to the lid which means

there is a small gap between the lid and base at the back as shown in the photos.

There is a name on the base of the box 'H&S Thurlon' and a small paint/ink blot.

Please view all the photos to assess the condition for yourselves

and I am happy to answer any of your questions.
