We are pleased to be able to offer for a sale a stunning collection of paintings, drawings and prints by the Scottish artist Thora Clyne 1937 - 2020. Clyne was associated with some of the most influential Scottish artists of the 20th century, in particular Elizabeth Blackadder whom she often collaborated with and was a close personal friend.
This fine work depicts a study of a seated cat on its chair and is executed in coloured pencil and measures 17x14 inches and comes unframed. It is in good condition and will reframe very effectively, it is signed and dates circa 1980s
Clyne was an artist and teacher, born in Wick, Caithness. She gained her masters degree with honours in fine art at Edinburgh University and College of Art in 1960, teachers including William Gillies and Derek Clarke, then was awarded a years postgraduate scholarship and travelling fellowship, Andrew Grant Bequest. Was principal assistant at Aberdeen Art Gallery, 1960-1, in 1963 studying printmaking at University of Colorado in America. From 1963 lectured part-time at Edinburgh College of Art. Prizes included the Anne Redpath Award, 1979, and special prize, 1984, both SSWA of which she was a member. Clyne regularly exhibited at RSA, RSW and at RA. Also exhibited in group shows in France and America. Had a solo show at Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh, 1991. Parisian street scenes, wild gardens, cats and unspoilt agrarian landscapes were among key themes.
