The base of this pouch is a single piece of nice soft, limp fabric, folded at the bottom and stitched closed up both of its long edges. To me, its slightly rough surface texture feels like linen, but I’m not certain that it is.

Size, approx. 5 ¾ in. by 8 in.

The last two scans show it turned inside-out.

I don’t know where this was made, do you have a guess? I have no evidence of its origin whatsoever, but my immediate reaction when I first saw it was that it might be Swedish/Scandinavian…???? Please let me know if you know. Thx!

As for its age, all I know is that it was found amongst estate goods that belonged to an antiques dealer who had a sizable collection of 19th C samplers. I’m not implying that this piece is definitely as old as the samplers, but it was in the collection of someone who gathered interesting old stitch-work.

Condition – a few bits of light wear; mild general soil plus a few small areas of heavier soil including one near the middle of the back and two on the inside of the collar.

Stitchwork / embroidery

Thanks for bidding!
