"The Navajos in 1705: Roque Madrid's Campaign Journal," edited, annotated, and translated by Rick Hendricks and John P. Wilson. Hardcover with dust jacket, published in 1996 by University of New Mexico Press, 175 pages, ISBN 0-8263-1717-0.

This long-lost journal gives a unique look into the old Navajo country. Recently rediscovered, it is both the earliest and only extensive eyewitness account of the traditional Navajo homeland in the eighteenth century. It reveals new information on Hispanic New Mexico and relations with the Indians. For the first twenty days in August of 1705, Roque Madrid led about 100 Spanish soldiers and citizens together with some 300 Pueblo Indian allies on a 312-mile march to torch Navajo cornfields and homes in northwest New Mexico in retaliation for Navajo raids on Spanish settlers.

The binding is tight, the pages are clean, book and dust jacket are both in like new condition.
