1939 Vintage Press Photo by INTERNATIONAL NEWS.
Montevideo, Uruguay.
With unwounded members of the crew lining the way, the funeral cortege of the 36 dead from the German pocket battleship Graf Spee is shown on the way to the Montevideo Cemetery where they were laid to rest. An escort of Uruguayan motor cycle police is leading the cortege. Most of these surviving sailors now are interned in Buenos Aires, to whence they were taken after they had blown up their ship outside Montevideo Harbor.

Admiral Graf Spee was a Deutschland-class "Panzerschiff", nicknamed a "pocket battleship" by the British, which served with the Kriegsmarine of Nazi Germany during World War II.
