Hong Kong Postmaster General Chiang Yam-hong announced that Hong Kong Post would issue a set of special stamps to commemorate the grand opening of Hong Kong Disneyland on September 12, 2005.

Hongkong Post issued a set of four commemorative stamps, souvenir sheet, stamp sheetlet and gold stamp sheetlet on September 12. At the same time, a commemorative pack will be launched, which contains a set of "Hong Kong Disneyland" stamps issued in 2003 to commemorate the groundbreaking of the park; there is also a newly launched set of "Hong Kong Disneyland Opening Celebration" stamps, and a Gold stamp sheetlet.

The stamps and stamp sheetlets were designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and printed by Cartor Security Printing in France using lithography technology. The gold stamp sheetlet is made by lithographic printing technology and embossed with 22K gold foil.
