After not having any pipes from Daniel Mustran for a while this one just came in and is an absolute jaw-dropper! His pipes will always hold a special place with me as one of the first Artisan pipes I ever bought was from Mustran and still today is one of my all time favorite smokers. He's one of those carvers who is innately talented though he also had the good fortune of spending time with Manduela, Reis, and Kai Nielsen to take his craft to the next level and it certainly shows here in this magnificent piece that remains unsmoked since it was carved in 2021! It shows a fair amount of Japanese influence to my eye, a "Scoop" like freehand with a hefty bowl though not overly large and offers extra thick walls with a slightly inflated rim opening to a generous and wide chamber affording plenty of capacity. It feels superb in hand and has a graceful transition to a chubby round almost half bent shank that widens where it is extended by what appears to be a Turkish Boxwood accent piece adding a really nice touch and holds the fancy hand-cut acrylic saddle stem, long with a fishtail bit and swirling deep sea green colors making this pipe really pop! And, look at that contrast finish and especially the birdseye on the heel, whoa! Above we find 360 degree dazzling flame grain wrapping around the bowl, exquisite indeed. Comes with original leather glove signed and dated, this one's for the utmost discerning collector of the finer things in life!

Restoration Methods: I have been restoring pipes for 16 years and have taken bits and pieces from many guys whom I consider the best there ever was in the business and built upon it with my own experience and tricks of the trade. Each pipe is first cleaned by removing all cake, making the chamber smooth and round again if necessary, removing all gunk in the shank and stem with alcohol, then exterior cleaning and polishing of the stummel and stem with no oxidation left but at the same time leaving the vulcanite or acrylic and any logos intact. My restorations end with the pipe looking like new and being completely free from previous signs of use. I do not use salt/alcohol treatments in my bowls but rather if the pipe smells of prior tobacco I will put it in my ozone chamber to make neutral. Lastly, many guys ask me "how are your pipes so shiny!!??" I lightly use the fluffy edge of my white diamond buffing wheel to clean and restore stummels which removes all grime and oils while restoring the original factory luster. I then hand buff and finish with a flannel wheel with high quality carnauba applying multiple coats as they do at the factory as well. This results in the pipe looking as new and will keep it's finish with a simple terry cloth hand buffing at home. Enjoy!
