On offer is a nice example of a Drew & Sons kettle / teapot from the "En Route" travel picnic set range. It was made in the United Kingdom and I think this dates from about the 1920s but I can't be sure. Along with the kettle is the fuel canister, but I don't have the burner that would have been used to heat the water. The fuel canister is empty. Please look carefully at all the pictures as they form part of the item description. What you see in the pictures is what you will receive if you won the auction.

The kettle / teapot is made from copper that has been silver-plated. In places the copper shows through where the item has been used or has been polished. The total weight of the teapot is just over 365gms on my postal scales. It is well made and has a screw-on lid, and screw-on cap to the spout. Both the lid and the spout fit well. There is no seal inside the lid, but there does appear to be the original seal inside the spout. The measurements of the kettle are as follow:-

Height with handle down 10 cm
Height with handle up 15cm
Diameter across the base 11cm
Spout length approx. 7.5 cm

Inside the kettle is the original filter that I think must be for tea. Sadly the lid to the filter is missing. The woven wicker handle is in nice condition but does have a little damage to one end as the pictures show.

Embossed to the side of the item is "Drew & Sons Picadilly London W". On the screw-on lid is printed "Remove This Lid also Cap From The Spout Before Lighting Lamp. Drew & Sons. Makers".

As pictured the fuel canister is also included in the auction. This would have been used to carry fuel for the burner that heated the water. The screw cap on the side goes on and off smoothly. There is some corrosion to it as you can see, but hopefully it might be useful to help you complete any equipment that you already have.

There is wear to the kettle commensurate with age and use. It's grubby and would certainly benefit from a clean up.There's some plating missing, and several small dents, so please see all photos.

The item is far from perfect but despite the faults this is still a lovely piece. It displays well and will make a good addition to any collection.
