ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

John Humen is a native of Washington State, residing currently in University Place. He grew up in a home on the shores of Turner Bay in Anacortes and in the last few years has renewed his connections with his boyhood home there.

His early efforts in the world of art centered on photography. As a teenager he studied briefly in the 1970's with local Anacortes legend Matt Brown and even managed to sell a number of works. He learned the mostly now defunct techniques of film development and working in the darkroom.

After a significant period of inactivity he was introduced to watercolor in the mid 90's. This media quickly turned into a consuming passion and over the years he has also worked in acrylic, pencil, gouache and charcoal.

In addition to art he pursues a number of other passions. Since the mid 1980s he has built a substantial, respected career as a software engineer and continues to enjoy the creativity this work offers. He is an avid and accomplished musician who plays several instruments, sings, writes and arranges music, and has performed with numerous local groups and bands over many years.

He also thoroughly enjoys a good bike ride, a scenic hike, and a fresh beer towards the end of the working day.
