The Zeiss Distagon CFE 40mm f/4 lens has an extreme wide angle effect with an 88 degree diagonal angle of view. It has a compact construction and floating lens elements (FLE) for optimum quality in the close focus range.

CF lenses constitute Hasselblad's main lens series with focal lengths from 30mm to 500mm and are intended primarily for the 500 series cameras. They have built-in leaf shutters with speeds up to 1/500th second and flash sync on all speeds. The CFi is the new "improved" CF series with increased contrast, upgraded shutter components, a locking PC-socket for flash sync cords, a redesigned and smoother focusing mechanism, a reinforced rear bayonet plate, a non-metallic front bayonet which withstands wear substantially better than the previous design and a new exterior design. CFE lenses have all the features of CFi lenses and also include the databus contacts for complete compatibility to the 200 series cameras.

Super wide angle lens for the 200 and 500 Series
Floating Lens Element (FLE) for optimum quality in close-ups

In spite of the wide aperture, wide angle of view and long focal distance in relation to focal length of this lens, distortion has been kept at a remarkably low level - making this lens suitable even for critical architectural photography.

The floating lens element (FLE) design enhances image quality at close range. The two floating front elements are moved by means of a secondary focusing ring with three click stops: infinity - 2 m, 2 m - 0.9 m and 0.9 m - 0.5 m.

Excellent for use with the PC-Mutar.

The Distagon 40 mm (FLE) is light and small. Its special desgn allows extreme wide-angle photography to utilise the single lens reflex concept with the advantage of viewing the image on the focusing screen. It has become a favorite because of the large background coverage that identifies a location and makes it an important part of the image surrounding the main subject. It has become the "environment lens", being an alternative to the 38 mm Biogon lens on the 903SWC camera.
