Offered here is an antique Papago basket from my parent's childhood collectables. It is approximately 5" in diameter at the top, just over 4" in diameter at the bottom, and just over 2" tall. I've not been able to determine the design and have only seen it on one other antique basket of the same era. It was purchased in Arizona by my Grandfather for my Mom on one of their family trips from California to Texas during the mid-to-late 1940s when my mother was an early teen. It is tightly woven and has no loose or wily ends and feels sturdy in structure. The center bottom appears to be a 4-point weave start. There is one tiny dot the same color as the darker design on the rim, which my Mom said has always been there. Please zoom in to the photo with dot, as you can see it appears the exact same dye color and low sheen as the geometric fiber. There are some very light marks on the bottom, probably from storage, and again, please see the photos for this. It has been in the same bedroom drawer of family collectables my entire life of 67 years. My Mother (90yo), now with dementia, cannot add any details to what she has previously shared with me over the years.

My Grandfather was born and raised in Texas, a descendant of the Loving family (yes, that Lonesome Dove Oliver Loving), and came to California in the late 20s to ranch and manage cotton gins. After my Mom was born, they took several trips back to Texas where his extensive family remained. My Mom used to tell me about these long hot drives, and of the varied stops they'd make along the trip. One such trip, she remembers stopping at a hut or booth (who knows from her memory) in Arizona where my Grandfather bought this little basket for her. She said it was kept in her drawer up until the time she moved out of the house after marrying my Dad. And, since 1954, this basket has been in the same bedroom dresser drawer until I brought it out to photograph for ebay.

Your basket will be packaged with care and mailed next business day. *Please ask questions before purchase, as I do not honor refunds.
