1959 Vintage Press Photo.
This venerable looking Chinese, Gin Lin, was a mining operator and boss of all the Chinese who worked in the Jacksonville, Oregon gold mines during the 1850s.
Photo is by Peter Britt, early day photographer who amassed outstanding collection of photos now owned by the Jacksonville museum.

Peter Britt captured the first photograph of Crater Lake and the growth of Southern Oregon's frontier. Prolific photographer Peter Britt may be best known for taking the first known photograph of Crater Lake in 1874, but many also recognize him as the father of the grape industry in Southern Oregon.
