This is a lovely tray or dish handmade by NC Art Studio artist Jim Rientjes.  He is part of the NC art pottery movement and opened Earthworks Pottery. He uses the distinctive red clay of central NC and always uses earth-tone colors.  This is a lovely example of his work.  I would say this is either an olive or condiment dish or it could be used as a change dish or for candy or nuts. This measures 7 ½” long at the longest point by 2 ¾” wide and 1” tall. This has lovely colors of brown, green and blue. The clay has a texture, almost like snakeskin, to it both on the back and under the glaze. The back is unglazed and is marked Rientjes and a C.
