Up for sale is an Outer Guard Case designed to hold an inner chronometer box for a Hamilton model 22 gimbaled box chronometer. Only the padded outer box as shown in the photos is offered in this sale. No clock or inner box are being sold.
The box wood is in fair to good overall condition. There are some small cracks in the upper portion of the box wood, and some early stages of plank separation in a few of the joints. There are some scratches and patches showing loss of finish or discoloration.
There is a some plank separation on one side of the base of the box. See photo.
The leather securing / carrying belt is in fair to good condition for its age. There are the typical wear and fold spots in the leather which are apparent in the photos.
The green velvet padding is in good condition overall, with only minor signs of wear. There is a darkend circular patch in the green padding (see photos).
The box interior has a fresh scent, and it is completely free of the musty odor that sometimes affects these old boxes.
The box hinge and latch are both in excelkent cosmetic condition and are each working properly. There is some slight accumulation of oxidation on some parts of the polished surfaces. See photos.
This outer guard box measures 7.5 x 8.9 x 10.7 inches including the base.
