Field Marshall Montgomery 1944-76 biography

Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery was one of the most successful British commanders of the Second World War (1939-45). Known as 'Monty', he commanded the Allies in North Africa and in  subsequent invasions of Italy and Normandy.

This listing is for two different books that explain his role in WW2, and provide necessary background on the causes of the fighting, the various battles he oversaw, and the final outcome.

Normandy to the Baltic 

This is Montgomery’s first-hand account of the invasion of Western Europe by Allied troops to free it from Nazi Germany. Book was published 2 years after the war ended in 1947. This is the reprint of the first edition, published two months after the first.

Textblock is in very good condition, with no ownership signs, no writing or other signs of ownership. The foldout may is in very good condition, with no tears or rips. Binding is firm and hinges are sturdy.

Front cover is faded and worn in places, as can be seen in photos. There is a single name and date (Xmas 1947) on the front endpaper.

Monty The Field Marshall 1944-1976

The larger book is a well-respected biography of Field Marshall Montgomery by Noel Hamilton, and titled simply Monty. It was published as a First Edition in 1986 and has 996 unmarked pages. It measures 2 ¾ inches thick. It also has dozens of black and white photos to illustrate Montgomery’s career and the important battles he oversaw.

 The book is in very good condition with a strong binding, robust hinges and square textblock. There are no names or other ownership signs, no bent or damaged pages, no moisture or library marks. The dust jacket has also survived very well in the 14 years since it was released, with clean graphics and no tears or cuts.
